The home was likely designed by modernist Alvin Lustig
This very dignified residence in Silver Lake is, per the listing, one of just two residences designed by influential modernist Alvin Lustig.
An apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, Lustig is less known for his contributions to architecture than for his recognizable book covers and furniture designs. Still, this house displays the clean, modern-era style Lustig brought to other projects.
Built in 1947, it was constructed for William Thomas, a friend of Lustig. (For more on its provenance, read this thorough accounting of why Lustig is the likely designer, though his name does not appear on permits.)
The stylish home has wood floors, walls of glass, and lovely redwood built-ins. Three bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms are spread across 1,153 square feet of living space. The living room opens to a long, covered deck that overlooks the neighborhood.
Sitting on a 6,397-square-foot lot, the house is complemented by terraced gardens, a detached garage, and a large patio with room for outdoor dining. A separate studio space below the house has its own entrance.
Asking price is $1.475 million.
