The car will be on permanent loan to the Los Angeles museum
The recently revamped Petersen Automotive Museum may not have unanimous support for its new racecar-ish look, but at least one coming attraction is universally beloved. The Petersen is receiving the original DeLorean from the Back to the Future movies, on permanent loan from Universal Studios, says a release from the museum. The car first appeared in the first installment of the film franchise, which opened in 1985.
The super-cool car (because “if you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?”) was restored in 2010 and has been on display at Universal Studios Hollywood. The DeLorean’s arrival at the Petersen will be celebrated with a bunch of BTTF-related events, like an Enchantment Under the Sea dance (the theme of the school dance in 1955 where Marty McFly’s parents first kiss). And the time machine should bring a ton of crowds to see the flashy exterior and redone interior of the Miracle Mile museum.
