A hotel, residential mid-rise, and student housing
A large mixed-use complex is proposed across the street from the future soccer stadium in Exposition Park. Called The Fig, the development would include a hotel, student housing, apartments, and more than 55,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
According to an initial study of the project, developer Spectrum Group Real Estate plans to demolish eight multi-family residences and a parking area on the nearly four-and-a-half-acre site on Figueroa and 39th street. The largest component of the project is the hotel, which would rise 21 stories and include 298 guest rooms.
Student housing would be located in a seven-story building with 222 units, while an additional 186 units would comprise another seven-story structure.
The residential units would be for tenants of mixed incomes, with 82 designated for households earning less than 80 percent of median income. Amenities include a gym, swimming pool, spa, and basketball court. The housing structure would also include more than 20,000 square-feet of creative office space.
A nine-story parking structure would serve all three buildings, with more than 1,000 spots for vehicles and 586 short-term and temporary parking spaces for bicycles.
Urbanize LA reports that, pending approval, construction of the Wimberly, Allison, Tong & Goo—designed project is expected to take about 18 months, wrapping up in 2018. That’s just in time for the opening of the stadium going up across the street. The 22,000 seat, soccer-specific venue is set to host the newly formed Los Angeles Football Club when their season begins in spring of 2018.
